Police are investigating the shooting death of man killed at a Gretna apartment complex Wednesday night. 

Authorities have not yet released the name of the 38-year-old victim. The Jefferson Parish Coroner's Office was still trying to notify his relatives as of Thursday morning. 

The shooting was reported about 7:22 p.m. at Boulevard Apartment Homes, 901 Gretna Blvd., police said. A person called 911 after hearing several gunshots and seeing a man lying on the ground.

Gretna police officers sent to the complex found the victim lying in a grassy area. He was pronounced dead at the scene. 

No other details were immediately available.
