Jones Walker announced Wednesday it will reopen its office in Tallahassee, Florida after a key attorney there rejoined the New Orleans-based law firm.

Marc W. Dunbar, who left Jones Walker in 2019 for Orlando firm Dean Mead, will lead a team of nine attorneys and government relations professionals who will join Jones Walker’s Tallahassee branch, according to a news release.

With the Tallahassee expansion, Jones Walker now has 16 locations in eight states and the District of Columbia. In addition to New Orleans, the firm has offices in Baton Rouge, Lafayette and Lake Charles.

Jones Walker opened the Tallahassee office in 2013 when Dunbar first joined the firm, according to company announcements. Dunbar, who has worked with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, and a handful of other attorneys left for Dean Mead when it signed a “strategic alliance” with Jones Walker in 2019.

Based in Orlando, Dean Mead announced last week it would leave the Tallahassee market effective Monday. The firm offered little explanation other than choosing to focus on other Florida markets.

“Jones Walker is looking forward to reestablishing itself in the Tallahassee market,” Jones Walker managing partner Bill Hines said in a statement. “We are pleased to welcome back an exceptionally talented group of professionals and the premier government relations practice in the capitol region. We are also eager to add esteemed attorneys who will strengthen our tax and litigation practices in Florida.”
