A man found dead on New Year's Day in the 7200 block of Burke Road has been identified by the Orleans Parish Coroner's Office as 27-year-old Eddie Rodrigue.
Officers responding to an unrelated incident at 9:14 a.m. Monday observed a "foul odor" in the area, police said. They soon discovered Rodrigue's body under a mattress. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The coroner classified the death as a homicide with the preliminary cause of death being a gun shot wound.
