A tornado watch has been issued Monday afternoon for all of southeast Louisiana, including the entire capital area.
The watch is in effect until 9 p.m., the National Weather Service said. Residents can expect high winds and potential flash flooding until Tuesday.
According to the NWS, a tornado watch is issued when "severe thunderstorms and tornadoes are possible" in the area, but it does not guarantee a tornado will occur.
The NWS reminds residents to be cautious when driving and secure outdoor objects.
