And the worst big-screen Cajun accent belongs to ...

Adam Sandler plays Bobby Boucher in the 1998 comedy 'The Waterboy.'

This week marked the 25th anniversary of "The Waterboy," a 1998 classic that is still the highest-grossing sports comedy of all time.

The movie stars Adam Sandler as Bobby Boucher — a 31-year-old waterboy for the fictional South Central Louisiana State University's losing football team. Bobby eventually rises to the top and earns himself a spot as the team's star linebacker.

"The Waterboy" is saturated in Southern stereotypes, as seen by its display of thick, fraudulent Cajun accents to hyper-religious characters.

While the film is based in Cajun country, was the movie actually filmed here? You may easily nod your head at the question.

The filming location has been a yearslong misconception, with many locals believing some of the movie may have been filmed in Lafayette. 'The Waterboy' was filmed in a Southern state, indeed, but hundreds of miles away from Louisiana.

The beloved sports comedy was actually filmed in Florida.

Stetson University in Deland, Florida, is one of the places where the film was shot, according to IMDB. The ultimate Bourbon Bowl game, where the Louisiana football team plays against a rival team, is shot at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando, IMDB says, and other film locations include Florida cities like St. Cloud and Lakeland.

A recent survey by Gambling.com found that Louisiana is the state most obsessed with 'The Waterboy,' following Arkansas, Texas, Alabama and Mississippi.

It may have been filmed in the Sunshine State, but Louisianans seem to be the biggest 'Waterboy' fans, even decades later.
