The Salmen girls basketball team finished runner-up to Smith County High (Tennessee) during the Salmen Holiday Shootout on Dec. 30.

The 12-team, four-day tournament featured teams from Louisiana, California and Tennessee. The Spartans were the only Louisiana team to take home a trophy as Karr fell to St. Bernard’s High (California), 60-54, in the third-place game. In the championship game, Salmen fell to Smith County, 66-55. The Spartans knocked off South Plaquemines (68-25), Hamilton Christian (50-43) and Karr (58-40) to advance to the championship.

Smith County senior Ariya Enoch was named tournament MVP, while teammate Merissa Spivey earned All-Tournament honors.

Other members of the All-Tournament team included Salmen senior Destiny Bennett and sophomore Akayla McMooian, St. Bernard’s junior Layla Florvicous, Karr freshman Kass Antoine, Carver senior Akella Bovie, B.T. Washington junior Keybrasia Thomas, South Plaquemines senior Jade Parker, St. Charles sophomore Chavez Smith, De La Salle freshman Tamia Cole, Hamilton Christian freshman Destiny Ware, Phoenix senior DaCora Burton Phoenix and Easton senior Jayla Miller.
