Two people were killed and a third person critically injured in a head-on traffic collision on the Front Street overpass in Slidell, police said Saturday.
Jennifer Hemphill, 40, of Slidell was driving north in a 2021 Volkswagen Passat with Joshua Williams, 39, of New Orleans as her passenger, while a 2013 Honda Accord was traveling south. Just before 9 p.m. Friday, on the bridge over the Norfolk Southern Railway, Hemphill crossed the centerline and crashed head-on into the Honda.
No one involved in the crash was wearing a seat belt, Slidell police said. Williams died at the scene, Hemphill at Slidell Memorial Hospital. The Honda driver was taken by helicopter to University Medical Center in New Orleans and was listed in critical condition, authorities said.
Toxicology information on the drivers was pending test results.
