Power has been restored to more than all but about 500 of the 2,200 Entergy customers in Metairie who lost power at about 5 p.m. as thunderstorms and strong winds moved through the metro area.

As of 7:45 p.m., 470 outages were still reported in the area along West Esplanade Avenue between Transcontinental Drive and Clearview Avenue.

Much of the Lower Ninth Ward was also without power for about an hour Monday night but it had also been restored by 7:45 p.m.

MORE: How to check power outage maps in the New Orleans metro as severe weather threatens

No other significant power outages have been reported so far in the metro area, though that could change later tonight. The worst of the weather is now expected around midnight, and a high wind warning remains in effect until 3 a.m.

An Entergy New Orleans spokesman said Entergy crews will work around the clock to restore power as quickly and safely as possible. If winds are above 30 miles per hour, bucket trucks are not permitted to operate, but teams will continue to perform work from the ground as long as it is safe to do so.
