DePaul Community Health Centers, which operates 11 health centers throughout metro New Orleans, started construction Sept. 1 on a new facility at 2801 General. DeGaulle Drive in Algiers.

The 20,000-square-foot health facility is expected to open its doors to the public in September 2024. It will be operated by DePaul Community Health, the nonprofit founded by the Daughters of Charity with proceeds from the sale of Hotel Dieu in 1992.

DePaul Community Health operates 10 health centers in the metro area, located in Algiers, Harvey, Bywater, Carrollton, Gentilly, Kenner, on Louisa Street and Prytania Street, in New Orleans East and in Metairie.

The centers care for people with chronic illnesses such as asthma, cardiovascular disease, diabetes and depression.

Women's health, mental health, dental, optometry, pharmacy, podiatry and Women, Infants and Children services are also available at select health centers.

The new health center in Algiers is budgeted at $14.4 million.

Also in 2024, DCHC  is scheduled to open an 8,700-square-foot, $4.3 million health center in the new H3C facility on Oretha Castle Haley Boulevard.
