A Madisonville man was killed in Tangipahoa Parish Thursday morning after his Nissan Altima crossed the centerline on La. 22 and hit a Jeep head-on.
Louisiana State Police said Dustin Thompson, 47, was wearing his seatbelt but was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash occurred just before 7:30 a.m. near Watters Road. Thompson was traveling west when he went off the road for unknown reasons, struck a bridge guardrail, traveled back across the road and into oncoming traffic, striking the Jeep Grand Cherokee.
The driver of the Jeep was wearing a seatbelt and was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries.
Toxicology samples were taken from both drivers as part of the ongoing investigation.
