The New Orleans Saints missed out on the NFC playoffs for the third consecutive season Sunday following a 48-17 victory over the Atlanta Falcons.

The Saints (9-8) fell short of the NFC South title after the Buccaneers (9-8) clinched the division with a 9-0 win over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

Dennis Allen's squad remained eligible for a wildcard bid, but the Saints needed both the Green Bay Packers and the Seattle Seahawks to lose games on Sunday.

The Saints' slim hopes came crashing down when the Packers beat the Bears 17-9.

In Allen's two seasons as head coach, the Saints have a total record of 16-18.

While the release of the 2024 schedule is months away, the result of Sunday's game determined which opponents the Saints will play next season.
