NOCCA: Four New Orleans Center for Creative Arts students received top honors in a recent youth vocal competition. The Donald W. Wood Sr. Vocal Competition is a collaboration among the New Orleans Opera Association, Loyola University New Orleans and Tulane University. Musical theater student Elijah Strain, of University View Academy, won first place. Classical vocal student Christopher-Lawson Palmer, of NOCCA Academic Studio, won second place. Classical vocal student Malia Suggs, of Patrick Taylor Academy, won third place. Classical vocal student Sienna Sloss, of Benjamin Franklin High, received honorable mention.
MOUNT CARMEL ACADEMY: The school has received the Outstanding Youth in Philanthropy award from the Association of Fundraising Professionals for its 27-year partnership with New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity. The award ceremony took place at the annual National Philanthropy Day event hosted by the AFP. More than 4,350 students have accumulated more than 30,000 service hours for NOAHH.
