A man who was killed in a Bridge City shooting on New Year's Eve was hit by a bullet that went through his apartment window, according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office. He was not involved in the altercation that led to the shooting, officials said.
The shooting was reported to the sheriff's office just before 9 p.m. Sunday in the 900 block of Beechgrove Boulevard, where deputies found the man unresponsive in his apartment. He was declared dead on scene.
Investigators discovered that a vehicle reported stolen hours before the shooting was parked in a lot near the scene, sheriff's office officials said. The owner of the vehicle saw it there and attempted to retrieve it, but was confronted by several unidentified males, according to the sheriff's office.
One shot at the owner, sending a bullet through a nearby apartment.
"The details of the investigation lead our investigators to believe that the homicide victim was not involved in either the auto theft or shooting incident," sheriff's office officials said in a news release.
The sheriff's office did not immediately release more information.
