After wrapping up the first winning season of his head coaching career, Dennis Allen said he expects to return for his third season as the New Orleans Saints head coach in 2024.

Both of Allen's Saints teams entered the regular season with postseason aspirations, and both of them ultimately fell short. This year's version, piloted by Allen's choice of quarterback in Derek Carr, went 9-8 and finished second in the NFC South after losing a tiebreaker to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

While Allen said he plans to be back, he offered an honest critique of his performance in the Saints' top coaching role Monday after his team was eliminated from postseason contention.

"It hasn't been good enough," Allen said. "Obviously, as the head coach, the last two years at 7-10 and 9-8, it's not what we aspire to be here. So I have to do a better job, and I accept that responsibility."
